This Saturday at Foothill College: KFJC Psychotronix Film Festival
This Saturday night is definitely not all right for fightin' but is astonishingly all right for the latest edition of the KFJC Psychotronix Film Festival.
We will return to Foothill College campus in the lovely Los Altos Hills for hours of movie fun!
We present another freewheeling improvised program of questionable entertainment, all on 16mm film, the vinyl of visuals.
The KFJC Psychotronix Film Festival shall ring in the Christmas holidays. . .
With yet another hallucinatory excursion through the irritated bowels of 20th century popular culture - and inevitably a Winter Wonderland of celluloid mayhem!
Best of all, the GREAT Joi Lansing, The Queen Of Scopitones, shall return to the silver screen on the Foothill College campus in the lovely Los Altos Hills!
There will be hours of movie fun, all on glorious 16mm film, projected on the intrepid Kodak Pageant 250 series machines by Psychotronix Film Festival projectionist and co-producer Sci Fi Bob Ekman.
Sci Fi Bob Ekman, Scott Moon and Paul F. Etcheverry, supported by ace KFJC soundman Austin Space, create the program on the fly, exemplifying the "And Now For Something Completely Different" approach to film programming while riding shotgun through the snake-filled vistas of 20th century popular culture.
Robert Emmett, host of KFJC's Norman Bates Memorial Soundtrack Show m.c.s the festivities with panache, dry wit, and a painstakingly picked selection of cheesy door prizes.
Inevitably, there shall be trailers from schlocky drive-in movies, well-meaning but now ridiculous 1950's educational films, vintage TV commercials and theatre ads, cartoon rarities and kidvid.
"Thunder lizards," serial chapters, puppet animation, Soundies, Scopitones and whatever else we can dredge up.
"Psychotronix" is a variation on Michael Weldon's essential book about under-the-radar B-films, The Psychotronic History Of Cinema, which remains the one and only comprehensive source covering all varieties of underappreciated and frequently under-funded genres: monster movies, exploitation, horror films, science fiction, rock 'n' roll revues, etc. This festival expands that concept to encompass movie theatre snack bar ads, all genres (and eras) of animation, silent films, musicals (Soundies, Scopitones, 1930's short subjects and Busby Berkeley clips), comedy shorts and TV commercials from the 1950's and 1960's.
