Secondly, it makes me want to order some of those superb albums Archie Shepp recorded for the Impulse label in the 60's, the Danish Steeplechase label in the latter 70's-1980's, and various European labels since. LOTS more great stuff!<BR/><BR/>When I heard The Archie Shepp Quartet play a thrilling, swinging, blistering hard bop set in North Beach back in (oh dear...) 1981?, drummer Clifford Jarvis lost a stick in mid-riff. It whizzed past the side of my friend Richard House's head and landed on the floor somewhere.<BR/><BR/>After the set, Clifford came out to see if we were OK, chatted for awhile and bought us drinks. So Clifford - I don't know if he's still living - was a very nice guy, as well as a terrific jazz drummer.Paul F.
