Don't tell Madame Blogmeister. She'll make me listen to Jane Wyman sing "In The Cool Cool Cool Of The Evening" again.
The reference to the academy award winning song “In the Cool, Cool of the Evening reminded me that it was written for a movie musical (never made) – about Mabel Normand…Sennett’s old assistant Frank (Capra) and his discovery Bing Crosby made the song famous. It was originally written by Johnny Mercer along with some other brilliant songs for the Mabel-Keystone Girl http://looking-for-mabel.webs.com/1950keystonegirl.htm
Excellent knowledge (and one terrific film history website), Marilyn! I would assume Kevin Brownlow, Sam Gill and possibly the late Bill Everson interviewed as many who worked with the multi-talented Miss Normand as they could find. From everything I have read, nobody had a bad thing to say about Mabel; her untimely death in 1930 remains one of those very sad tragedies of show business.
The Saturday night double bill of Too Late For Tears and The Hitchhiker was one of the best I've ever seen at Noir City. Hard-boiled big screen thrills, baby!
